Description
The Elite-MWAX columns are Silcosteel GC capillary columns coated with a bonded polyethylene glycol stationary phase. These columns are polar.
Polyethylene Glycol Phase
The Elite-MWAX columns are the most versatile and thermally stable polar phases. The polyethylene backbone of these columns is considerably different than polysiloxane phases. The oxygen group in the polymer backbone not only imparts a strong polar dispersive interaction in the phase, but also provides a very strong dipole interaction as the phase itself is capable of hydrogen bonding bonding between a strong polar group (OH, NH) and a compound with strong electronegativity (F, O, N).
Primary Applications
Elite-MWAX columns are an excellent choice to analyze polar compounds such as amino alcohols, alcohols, hydroxyl acids, dibasic acids, amines, nitrile, fatty acids, fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs), flavors, essential oils, solvents, xylene isomers, BTEX, aromatic volatile compounds, and nitrosamines.
Minimum Operating Temperature
Many PEG columns undergo a solid-liquid phase transition at temperatures below 40°C, which results in loss of efficiency, reduced sample capacity, and poor retention time reproducibility. The Elite-MWAX column has a minimum operating temperature of 20°C to 240°C.
